June – August 2016

Rabtt Fellowship Program and Rabtt Scholars Program have been in full throttle this summer! The Summer Camps, an integral part of our flagship programs, were conducted for 5 weeks in Lahore and Karachi. The program brought together around more than 500 Scholars from different areas such as Youhanabad, Alfalah Colony and Glaxo town in Lahore and Lyari and Korangi from Karachi. Also, 75 qualified Fellows were inducted from various universities such as LUMS, FCC, UET, Punjab University, Kinnaird College, LSE, NamaI, IBA, SZABIST, Habib University, CBM, Iqra University and Bahria University.
This summer marked a journey of self reflection and growth for both Scholars and Fellows, thereby creating a long-lasting bond that all the students have cherished. The programs focused on building 4 core competencies empathy, critical thinking, creativity and confidence via instruction of 7 subjects: English, Mathematics, World History, Philosophy, Public Speaking, Dramatics and Arts. Scholars not only demonstrated an enthusiastic response to the summer classes, but were also keen to explore the various topics of guest sessions including game development, innovative teaching methods, traffic information, introduction to 3D printers, evolution of morals in society, pottery making, and career counseling.
Five weeks of fun-filled action and activity-based learning techniques were concluded with a Graduation Ceremony in Karachi and a Showcase in Lahore.

We continued our exciting engagement with Akhuwat teachers in Faisalabad and Jhang over the summer, with an Early Career Training that built on the Induction Training that Rabtt had conducted in March of this year. The summer training, held from 26th to 31st July 2016, brought together Focal Teachers and Cluster Coordinators and engaged them with a focus on improving learning outcomes and build an understanding of assessment frameworks. The Focal Teachers were also trained to become Trainers, and they went on to train the whole Akhuwat teaching staff through this tiered training program, from 3rd to 5th August 2015. Getting updates from teachers and seeing the progress in Akhuwat schools was one of the highlights of the summer, and we are confident that these schools will prove to be a model for the country!

Rabtt & The Little Art joined hands this summer to showcase the joys of learning, creating and building connections! The celebration was held at Al-Hamra Arts Council, Lahore on the 20th August. Art work and projects by Scholars were warmly welcomed by our supporters and partners. Renowned Urdu writer, Mr. AsgharNadeemSayed honored this event as the Chief Guest. Scholars from summer camps took part in the theatrical performances mentored by the Fellows, scripted and prepared over the summer by Scholars. All the performances were highly appreciated by the parents of Scholars, partner organizations and rest of the attendees. “Hamaintaaleemkaisichahiye?” was the topic of discussion where diverse perspectives from the key stakeholders of the education sector were shared. Best films selected by The Little Art from the International Children Film Festival not promoted learning through entertainment. Besides all the activities, MARO Tandoor’s unique category of naan and chocolate pan offered by the enthusiastic young entrepreneurs of PaanDan gave the audience a delightful experience.

Imran Sarwar, our Co-founder & CEO, was selected as an Aspen Ideas Festival Scholar this year, and attended the Festival from 29th June to 2nd July 2016, in Aspen, Colorado. The extensive festival is a public gathering for leaders from multiple disciplines and walks of life, from across the globe, to come together and engage in deep discussion around issues that affect us and shape our lives. The Festival gave us the opportunity to interact with, and learn from, some of the leading minds in entrepreneurship, education, social change, and academia, giving us food for thought as we chart the road ahead for Rabtt. You can view highlights from the Festival here.
